Oof. This one hurts.
We always knew the day might come when Europe or another massive offer came knocking for Dani Pereira, but seeing it happen like this—a trade within MLS to CF Montréal—is a tough pill to swallow.

Austin FC just announced they are sending our midfield OG up north for $1.4 million in 2026 GAM, $700,000 in 2027 GAM, and up to $250,000 in conditional GAM. Yeah, up to $2.35 million in funny money looks great on a spreadsheet for the front office, but you can’t put a price tag on the heart of this team.
Dani wasn’t just another player on the roster. He was our first guy. The number one overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. We watched him grow from a nervous rookie into a dominant, press-resistant midfielder who could wiggle out of any tight space and carry the ball forward when we needed it most. Since 2021, he’s been the engine room of Austin FC.
Interim Head Coach Davy Arnaud put it into words well, saying Dani represented the city with pride and built a genuine connection with the community. Arnaud admitted it was an emotional and difficult decision, but claimed the deal hit the threshold to position the club for long-term success.
Still, hearing Dani’s goodbye cuts deep:
“Austin FC as a whole changed the life of a kid from Caracas, and I will always be grateful for it.”
No, Dani—thank you. You gave everything for Austin FC. Q2 Stadium won’t feel quite the same without number 6 pulling the strings in the midfield. Go smash it in Montréal, Dani. You’ll always have a home in Austin.
