Los Verdes issued a statement condemning any form of abuse after Cecilio Domínguez abruptly had his suspension lifted by MLS.
MLS conducted an investigation with local law enforcement based on a report of a domestic dispute with Domínguez’s partner and they concluded he is now eligible to return to Austin FC. Domínguez missed five games during the investigation.
His return to the team is contingent on MLS-mandated counseling.
This was not his first time being charged with domestic violence. In October 2016, there was an article titled, “Cecilio Domínguez es imputado por violencia familiar (Cecilio Domínguez is charged with family violence)”.
According to the indictment back then, he kicked his wife, Johana Fleitas, three times and after grabbing her neck he threatened to rape her.
It is not known if Austin FC knew about the 2016 charge, but they know now.
Here is the statement from Los Verdes…
Additionally, Los Verdes is collecting items for the adult survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault at The SAFE Alliance. You can help out by providing basic needs, clothing, and household items to assist survivors and their families.
Los Verdes is also raising money for The Safe Alliance through a GoFundme.
Please help if you can with donations of money and/or essential items for survivors, as well as sharing the message from Los Verdes that there is no place for abusers with Austin FC, the Austin community, and the overall soccer community.
There is no place for abusers in the #AustinFC organization, the Austin community, and the soccer community as a whole.
No hay lugar para los abusadores en la organización de Austin FC, en la comunidad de Austin, y la comunidad futbolística en general. https://t.co/lTZGShN1iz pic.twitter.com/Wo5B4AVvf1

See you at the match on Mother’s Day, and hopefully, we won’t see any people with a history of abuse suiting up in Verde and Black.
