American soccer legend Matt Besler, who joined Austin FC for the 2021 season, has announced his retirement.
Matt Besler was a defender for Austin FC and spent one season in Austin after 12 seasons with Sporting Kansas City.
Besler was a five-time MLS All-Star and two-time MLS Best XI honoree, and was named the league’s Defender of the Year in 2012.
He won the 2013 MLS Cup and three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup titles with Sporting Kansas City.

Besler also made 47 appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team, including four starts at the 2014 World Cup.
