If you were driving along W. Braker Lane or Burnet Road today you may have seen signs announcing the Austin FC Stadium next to the Discount Tire store.
I can’t wait until they break ground later this year.

Austin Anthem is the supporters’ group for Austin FC and the local community of soccer fans who helped bring Major League Soccer to Austin.

Previously known as MLS in Austin, the group was rebranded as Austin Anthem after that mission was achieved last year.
In addition to bringing together the soccer community to support Austin FC, Austin Anthem is focused on community engagement and philanthropy.
There are multiple options for you to support Austin Anthem – I recommend the Supporter Membership, which comes with a bunch of perks, as well as a scarf, car magnet, stickers, and a lapel pin.
Last week Austin FC issued a press release about the estimated cost of the future stadium rising to $240 million.
The original estimate for the stadium last June was $200 million and the number rose to $225 million when the lease agreement with the city went public in December.
Team president Andy Loughnane told the Austin American-Statesman that one of the items that have driven the increased cost for the stadium is a roof expansion that would make the stadium’s cover the second-largest among current soccer-specific venues behind Red Bull Arena, home of the New York Red Bulls.
So the Austin FC stadium will have more cover for the fans than any soccer-specific stadium west of the Mississippi River.
Loughnane said the canopy will be more than twice the size of the roof at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston and five times larger than Toyota Stadium in Dallas.
With the hot Austin summers that is awesome news to me as a fan and future season ticket holder – thanks Austin FC.
