Austin FC has announced a new multi-year contract with defender Julio Cascante. Cascante’s new deal includes three guaranteed years through the end of the 2025 season, with an option for the 2026 season.
Cascante, 29, joined Austin FC before the inaugural season in 2021. He has since made 67 MLS appearances for Austin across the regular season and playoffs, contributing five goals and six assists.
His seven goal contributions in the 2022 season were tied for the most among all MLS centerbacks.
In 2022, Cascante’s average of 55.1 touches per game was the most of any Austin FC player. He also ranked second on the team in accurate long balls (157), second in duels (277), and third in tackles won (22).
Before joining Austin FC, Cascante spent three seasons with the Portland Timbers. He played in the Primera División in his native Costa Rica from 2011 to 2018, including stints with Saprissa, C.F. Universidad de Costa Rica, and Orión FC.
